I'm not about to put my life on the line disagreeing with you & eating a random mushroom, but I follow Canadian news closely via CBC podcasts and have never heard of foraging deaths being a thing. Don't know if this is a TIL or I have a contact high from reading this thread

Foraging deaths are absolutely a thing. Aside from the many reports I've seen online and discussed within the mushroom cultivating community, I can't imagine why anyone would think that nobody has ever died from mistaken identification of foraged mushrooms.
