Aurora borealis out east of Cincinnati last night. To the naked eye this appeared only as a faint red glow—but still, not bad for latitude of 39.02' north!

Aurora borealis as seen looking northeast over East Fork Lake at East Fork Lake State Park in Clermont County, Ohio (about 20 miles east-southeast of Cincinnati), on Thursday, October 10, 2024. A calm lake is in the foreground and a combed beach is at bottom right. The horizon on the opposite shore stretches low across the bottom of the photograph. The sky shows subtle green-yellow at left, pink at right, and purple above. Faint vertical streeks are visible throughout. What appears to be the largest visible star (near the bottom right of the sky) is actually the planet Jupiter. The Pleiades asterism is above and to the right of it.
