I'm gonna need to sit with this. Others have experienced this same pain.
I have several friends who cared for a parent with dementia. That isn't what's happening here, but it was painful to witness. I felt so bad for her when she was confused. They asked her to draw an analogue clock with the time! This is like them asking who is the president. Wtf cares.
She has a system to take her meds, and I get it. She doesn't want to lose autonomy or control.
Thank you Katie, I'm gonna cry.
And if she fails the next screening, it means she may not be considered competent legally. She doesn't have dimentia, and I feel I have done something without her consent.
She is entirely lucid. She can make her coffee, she knows what she wants, she has her long term memory intact. But she can't remember the year and only knows it ends in 04. She can't recite details if you tell her a story. She can't draw an analog clock with hands pointing at a time.
Thank you. My friend says it's unlikely but it's sad to hear my dad died angry at us.
Aaagh and won't let me do pill boxes.
Well not great to only read half. But to answer you, we as USian readers expect intimate, personal memories and details because she is his daughter. Nobody else has access to that. We expect her to share personal stories. It's not ego or self promotion.
Thank you! Love all the alt text education we do here.
