Allow me to share a hypothesis: cruelty isn't the point, it's the means. I say that because the point is actually more insidious than just mere cruelty. When I look at what they're doing, what comes to mind is Aktion T4 which was orchestrated under the Nazis, not for cruelty but for monetary reasons
