Anyway, the paper is now published in Science, and ws an extremely cool (sorry) study to be involved with. We have a 10 minute explainer video, which covers the story in depth, with all of the amazing data, imagery and visualizations my colleagues have put together, for anyone interested.

The modellers among us worked hard to relate the period of the seismic oscillations to the period of a possible seiche (sloshing wave) in the fjord. Could it be modelled? (Yes!) Could it be sustained? (Yes!) @seismo-steve.bsky.social made this awesome video showing our colleagues' efforts!

(For my part, I processed InSAR data over Dickson Fjord and was able to independently detect decorrelation consistent with the expected tsunami run-up around the edges of the fjord. I did not find any obvious pre-event signal on the rocky peak, but it certainly did decorrelate after it fell.)

Comparison between two interferometric correlation images, one pre-event (24 days before, left) and one spanning (right) the rockslide and tsunami in Dickson Fjord

Scenes from Wednesday at Entomology 2023 in National Harbor, Maryland #EntSoc23 2/3

Incoming ESA president Jennifer Henke poses with outgoing president Marianne Alleyne on the main stage at Entomology 2023, after presenting Alleyne with a small crystal statue with the ESA logo, which Alleyne holds.
ESA board member Julien Saguez hands outgoing president Marianne Alleyne a tall sign that had adorned the front of the podium on the main stage at Entomology 2023. The sign shows the conference logo in white on blue on the top, with a large image of a black beetle oriented vertically on the sign below.

Hahaha. There is an informal study (?) where the same person before drinks is less attractive to biting insects than they are after drinks. Surely it was published (maybe one of the insect people know where?)

Did you stop by post drinks? Because that's the other part of the experiment. 🦟🍺
