We are living in an age of denial. Denial of a genocide. Denial of an ongoing pandemic. Denial of a climate crisis. Acknowledging reality is an act of rebellion.

Please keep signing and sharing this petition against the banning of masks in North Carolina. It’s helping to get more media attention on the issue! You can sign here: www.change.org/p/halt-the-p...

Senate Republicans approved HB237 even as Democratic opponents claimed a ground-swelling of public pushback against ending the exemptions.

According to Sen. Sydney Batch, D-Wake, about 700,000 North Carolinians are dealing with immunocompromised health issues, including herself following her fight with non-invasive breast cancer.

A Change.org petition urging lawmakers to rethink the bill has already gotten nearly 3,700 signatures. The petition cites concerns about people who wear masks for medical reasons.

The US government keeps telling us that COVID is fine now because “we have the tools.” Well, they stopped requiring the reporting of COVID hospitalization data and they have ended programs for free tests, free masks, and now free vaccines. We absolutely DO NOT have the tools.

"So this bill will protect the Ku Klux Klan to wear masks in public, but someone who's immunocompromised like myself cannot wear a mask?" — North Carolina Senator Sydney Batch, who is a cancer survivor Unbelievable.

It has been a crime since the 1950s to wear a mask in public in North Carolina. But there are exemptions, including for Halloween or specific types of work that require face coverings. The exemption also allows for members of a secret society or organization to wear masks or hoods in a parade or demonstration if they obtain a permit.

"So this bill will protect the Ku Klux Klan to wear masks in public, but someone who's immunocompromised like myself cannot wear a mask?" said Sen. Sydney Batch, D-Wake, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2018.

This North Carolina bill is ridiculous. It justifies punishing protestors for blocking emergency vehicles, yet bans wearing masks for health reasons. This bill is dangerously anti-public health and restricts people's ability to protest and exercise their First Amendment rights.

HOUSE BILL 237:
Unmasking Mobs and Criminals.

OVERVIEW: The Proposed Committee Substitute (PCS) for House Bill 237 would do the following:
• Repeal the health and safety exemption from certain laws prohibiting the wearing of masks in
public.
• Enhance the criminal punishment if the defendant wears a mask to conceal the defendant's
identity during the commission of another crime.
• Prevent the executive branch or local governments from distinguishing between religious
institutions and other entities during an emergency.
• Impose criminal and civil liability on individuals who obstruct emergency vehicles during
demonstrations.
