This year I'm in the "chairs" pools to chair diss defenses at UWaterloo, which must be outside of Arts. Yesterday I learned a lot about the role of volunteers in ecological restoration, and then had privilege of formally annoucing to the candidate they had passed brilliantly.

Reflections on the closing of the Toronto Mennonite Theological Centre, an institution that has shaped me profoundly over the past 25 years, and which in turn I have had the privilege of serving. uwaterloo.ca/grebel/news/...

Looking forward to reconnecting (and this introvert is also open to meeting some new people!) at #AARSBL23 ... sessions, books, receptions, hallway chats. I'm grateful & fortunate to have institutional financial support to attend. I know that many do not.

Delighted to see that the latest issue of The Conrad Grebel Review is now online, featuring excellent articles on the theme of "Hope, Despair, Lament," originally presented at a TMTC Mennonite Graduate Student Conference. uwaterloo.ca/grebel/sites...

Preached and led adult education yesterday at Elmira Mennonite Church. I really appreciated the open and honest conversation in adult ed about the complexities of Mennonite complicity in residential schools, and what that means for "us."

Spent the afternoon today with Mennonite Church Eastern Canada pastors at their retreat, talking about "Authority as a Gift to the Church? The Paradox of Authority in the Mennonite Tradition." Lots of thoughts about authority!

This arrived in the mail today! Based on presentation I gave at Mennonite-Indigenous Encounters conference at Grebel Spring 2022. I warn that some attempts by Mennonites to pursue Indigenous-settler reconciliation can perpetuate white supremacy within Mennonite churches.
