When I was in law school about 15 years ago, there was a STRONG strain of right wing discourse about “intelligence” (or the lack thereof, witness the Sotomayor slander during her confirmation) and it almost always boiled down to LSAT and IQ-test scores. It’s insidious.

Smaller point but these lies also give the lie to the notion that Republicans just “don’t trust big government.” If there’s ever a time NOT to trust “big government,” it’s when it’s uprooting, destroying, and outright taking people’s lives.

God I love her in this. It’s the first performance of hers I recall in my lifetime and it’s so dead-on perfect I can’t imagine it getting better. The bridge scene alone where she keeps trying to get everyone to stop clapping for Ivor is worth the price of admission.
