Afternoon constitutional in Richmond Park marred by a notice saying that some of the oak trees have an ‘oak decline’ disease, so they are having to cut the affected ones down. They’ll replace them with more resistant species. Am gutted. I’ve been greeting those trees every few days for 26 years.

They were brave to take it on at all. Glad to have heard it…but prefer Candide.
