Decent healthcare should be a political priority for lots of reasons. But I"m sceptical that deliverism and a few hanging baskets will see off the populist right. The UK should learn lessons from the USA here.
It needs a lot more than that, but there is not a short term fix. Providing decent affordable social housing for everyone would be a start and some proper full time jobs for people.
The issue isn’t quite the ‘populist right’ - nothing will see off Farage or Robinson other than prison or lack of funding. The point is to drain the pool from which they recruit. If the alienated look for scapegoats, address alienation. And oppose far right leadership, of course.
I don't think the the raw economic "being poor/hard-up makes people racist, fix that and it'll reverse" argument stands up (look at how UK pensioner voting shifts as they transition sharply from a 40+% poverty rate to 10+% poverty rate) ...
