I have interviewed many people over my career, but none produced as many "WTF?!" moments as when I interviewed (some) people for faculty positions. Heartbreaking.
Violence like this always seems to stem from some sense of entitlement with no regard for other people. They feel slighted that they are rejected, and they go and "take what's theirs". Seriously a horrible state of mine that results in atrocities.

When you’re a faculty of color, White people often consider you as the diversity hire. Many White people are jealous and bitter because you supposedly took the job they wanted. They want you to quit so they can replace you. Academia does not actually care about faculty of color. We are expendable.
