We both want peace. We do see it differently. You see it as colonialism and apartheid with Israel as the cause. I see that as dangerous rhetoric that fuels and is fueled by antisemitism. I KNOW that is not where you are coming from personally. But that language contributes to it.
And using the terms genocide and ethnic cleansing implies a colonial intent. Rather than acknowledging that Israel is responding to an ongoing existential threat. Iām speaking to the painful nuance and complexity of the situation. Iām not supporting indiscriminate civilian casualties.
My empathy is not selective either. In our conversation I never questioned yours. But it felt you were questioning mine. I respect you, which is why I felt I could engage with you on an incredibly difficult topic. I wholeheartedly want civilian killing to end. And.
