VM: "Be forewarned, at 9:05 at night, there will be a line of cars on King Street with parents driving their kids to get something to eat at the McDonalds." Hmmm, ok, that's their choice.

I hope your parents will be ok. My niece who is pregnant left Tampa today with her 3 children. They have a place to stay in the Jacksonville area.

I was in NC and did not hear the crash on Sunday. A friend said it was quite a noise! They thought it was a lightning strike. Fortunately, their neighbor checked and called 911.

Good news. Friends have indicated that the driver of the vehicle which crashed off Seminary Rd on Sunday was not only alive but expected to be okay. That is good to hear! @corbie.bsky.social

The nearby pedestrian refuge island and bike lane infrastructure appeared undamaged, and hence did not likely play any role in the crash on Sunday. Seminary Rd was closed while Dominion crews replaced a utility pole that had been sheared in half. Perhaps @corbie.bsky.social can learn more. 3/3

At 3:26 AM 09/22, a caller reported a crash near 3833 Seminary Rd with a tree on the vehicle. First responders later indicated the vehicle was on fire. A work crew member indicated the driver was doing 90 miles mph to shear the utility pole and stop only when it hit a tree. 2/3 @corbie.bsky.social

Requiring all abutting owners and tenants to support a petition before it can be submitted is, frankly, ridiculous. Staff knows from their experience that property owners do not always respond to outreach attempts. No policy should imply that a property owner has authority over public space.

Elena, good idea. That said, I credit staff for using surrogate criteria for pedestrian volume, i.e., crossing locations near schools, rec centers, bus stops, etc. IIUC, the proposed policy, would not set priorities but rather a list of criteria of which 2 would need to be met for a staff decision

Crews were implementing protected bike lanes (PBLs) on Seminary Road this week, one of 4 planned PBL projects in Alexandria for Summer 2024. PBLs improve safety for ALL road users, based on a study of thirteen years of data from twelve large U.S. cities. bit.ly/Separated_Bi...
