We then placed the phylogenomic tree of Opisthokonts in geologic time using relaxed molecular clock analysis. These results suggested Opisthokonts are ~1.1 billion years old; animals are ~791 million years old; Holomycota are ~995 million years old; etc

We anticipate this phylogeny may help serve as a backbone for studies of molecular and phenotypic innovation, loss, and selection. Huge shout out to Yuanning Li and Antonis Rokas for leading this effort with support for a cool cast of characters -- even I got in on the fun!
