In terms of missing infrastructure, this is to people in the DMV what the Golden Gate Bridge is to people in SF. Completely changed our skyline.

Or perhaps the Bay Bridge - the main workhorse bridge in the Bay Area, which leads to our shipyards, and the area where ships anchor out in the Bay. (Coincidentally, it also took a glancing ship strike some years ago).
