Fwiw 60% of the US fire service aren't paid- there are no firefighting jobs. I'm not condoning using prisoners (obvs), but tbc they cannot get jobs bc it is not in fact a paying job and that's also why they have to use prisoners- there is no paid US fire service.

Hi. Reminder that in 2008, 80% of the US fire service was volunteer. That figure is now closer to 60%, & it's not because we're paying more firefighters, it's because THAT MANY OF US HAVE LEFT. And no, that's not just a rural issue. The US fire service relies on volunteers & is failing rapidly.
