Macmillan in old age thought that if Butler had become PM he would have won the 1964 election and added "But then Labour would have won the next election".

Jenrick plans to require members of the Shadow Cabinet to sign up to leaving ECHR. Earlier all leadership candidates said they would serve under whoever wins. Is this still the case?

Almost all sports name teams after historic and often defunct entities. Cricket is based on pre 1973 and 1963 counties e.g. Middlesex, Sussex. Rugby League after pre 1973 towns e.g Leigh a town politically absorbed into Wigan. GB and Ireland division looks like pre 1800 when they were 2 kingdoms

3. A group with its own leader and whips is now credible especially as the arch timeserver Damian-Pierre Laval-Green has thankfully been removed making space for a resolute One Nation leadership.

2. Jenrick policy of requiring pledge to support leaving ECHR may produce enough refuseniks who would have nothing to lose by doing this. Also those who plan to retire anyhow would have nothing to lose. .../3

It would be unsurprising if some Tory MPs form a semi-detached group like the Liberal Unionists in their early years. If they have support in their constituency associations then with at least 3.5 years before an election they could establish themselves. .../2

Many Tories thought this about Margaret Thatcher immediately after 1975 coup against Heath so I am not sure this is conclusive against Badenoch. Jenrick's extremist policies may well follow Foot in 1980s or Gladstone in 1880s in causing a splinter group to spin off - SDP and Liberal Unionists

Jenrick plans to end Windsor Protocol and leave ECHR run a substantial risk of destroying GFA and reviving conflict over Northern Ireland's future. This is evil and supports your assessment.

Macmillan War Diaries are superb.and when they overlap with Alanbrooke fascinating on how things might have gone otherwise

Not convinced your comment explains Reform picking up so much while Cons remains steady. Very plausible over Labour, Lib Dem and Green.
