The danger of these fakes goes beyond making people believe lies - they undermine the entire notion that there is an identifiable truth, allowing us to pick and choose whatever we would like to believe.

If you’ve spent much time sitting across from other humans, the tells are obvious. The problem is, a lot of people w/ access to the web wouldn’t know this is fake. They may intuit something is off, but they’d still buy bc that mic says “CNN”.

Thing is, I can tell it’s fake immediately, but it’s all I think about these days. Most people are just going about their lives, and that’s who I kinda worry about. I think if people know what to look for and we push that kind of education on a huge scale, it falls flat.

Yup. Potemkin, Stalin, Kremlin & other fascists produced that same crap without AI since ... 1787 Barbara McQuade, @joycewhitevance.bsky.social and Ruth Ben-Ghiat know exactly, what the goal is: to destroy the capability to believe anything is true.

Personally very upset that we got to AI deep fakes before solving climate change and overthrowing capitalism, for survival reasons
