I'm going to be That Guy In the US at least, the liquid burned by such lanterns is normally called "white gas", and is not the same as the oilier liquid that is sold here as "kerosene" Kerosene-burnning lamps have a wick, while lanterns that burn pressurized white gas have a "mantle"
