A society built upon the necessity of marriage for women in particular is a society that doesn't care much for the women in it at all.

Exactly right. People lining up to explain patronizingly why obviously marriage is the solution to this data (and sooo many of them are women). .....makes me stabby. Have we learned nothing? It is excruciating.
