My read is that British feminism has always been considerably more radical and exclusionary than American feminism, which has been more about coalition building. The US didn't have an equivalent of the Pankhursts
American feminism was: We want men to be better and treat us as equals, both legally and socially. British feminism was: We want men to go away, leave us alone, and give us our rights, which we will take by force if necessary.
Not sure I'm convinced by this. Most of the original prominent TERFs - Janice Raymond, Mary Daly, Robin Morgan, MichFest, etc - were American!
