I usually mute, unless I’ve found someone who seems not annoying but genuinely hostile and malevolent. Then I don’t want them to even see or follow my stuff. I want to be as far away from them as possible.

What is pointless and what is deflecting is usually shaped by people’s pre-existing biases (and most people’s predilection for intellectual dishonesty) though. Those things are ~always a matter of opinion.
I mean - you’re unquestionably right. That is the counterargument. And it’s why we used to have securities regulations before crypto a transparent scam they just decided was too new to enforce current law on.
It is, kindof. But sometimes you need to definitively end a conversation, like closing the door on a door-to-door salesman. I always tell people I’m doing it so they don’t waste time talking at my account though. I’m not a troll.
