As @johnkroman.bsky.social has convincingly argued, a leading contributor to the spike in gun violence was likely the collapse in NON-POLICE public sector employees: the social workers, doctors, counselors who are as much on bribe front line of crime reduction as cops.

If Trump admin had spent more time trying to support local governments and less time trying to steal PPE to resell mysteriously elsewhere, it’s likely at least SOME of the violence would have been prevented. But like so many “tough on crime” types, Trump isn’t actually interested in reducing crime.
