Some of you may know this anecdote from the Bad Place, over ten years ago I asked one of my national security sources for my writing for an unexpected prediction. I was expecting EMP, etc. He said “If you own anything in Phoenix, sell. It’ll be unlivable in a decade.”
The relentless and record heat is testing the will of Phoenix residents.
I think that there's a reason why Elizabeth Holmes, when she was trialing the Theranos machines (which of course didn't really work), put one of them in Palo Alto and the rest in Phoenix (and none in suburban Chicago, where Walgreens is HQed).
Time to move the city underground
Meanwhile, fossil fuel exploration continues to be expanded even as it should have been forcefully declined starting 50 years ago.
I keep telling people, the greatest refugee crisis the US faces hasn’t happened yet, and it will be an exodus, not an in-rush.
My first husband lives there now. The one who basically ghosted me and then we got divorced via email. Phoenix sounds like the perfect place for him.
This story has lived rent-free in my head since you originally posted it.
I have a relative who lives around there. I'm not in regular touch, but at one point I know they bought a house that they literally could not live in 2 months of the year because too hot, so they had a condo in Aspen or somewhere as well. Mind blowing. (also having $$$ to do that).
I live in California’s Central Valley. It’s not unusual for us to see triple digits in the summer. Today it reached 100. Forecast is for over 100 thru Friday. In 2017, I almost bought a home in Buckeye, Az. Reason prevailed. Why would I move to an area that gets hotter than where I already live?
100 days...I wouldn't last.
