The key to understanding this is to remember Trump’s support is not the working class, but the local aristocracy, the car dealership owners et al. who see themselves as Johnny Big Boy Business like Trump’s jmage.
There’s not 75 million local aristocrats.
The petit bourgeoisie
Just look at the job titles of most of the Jan 6 arrestees for confirmation. Realtors, bankers. business owners
And their current listings, from Chicago’s Trump Tower to a Colorado car wash franchise.
Think back over all the jobs you've had and recall the worst boss you've had. You remember the guy. That's the modal Trump voter.
Well, there’s my neighbor who has been on disability for the last 20 years. My other neighbor who works for a government contractor and said when “your guy” takes over he’d be getting laid off. That didn’t happen, but a pay raise and constant overtime did, which he complains about because of TAXES!
It reminds me of the old adage about GOP voters assuming that one day they WILL be rich, so they vote for those who support the rich. This is the same idea. They're not all Johnny Big Boy but they assume they will be.
Solo contractors are also a key Trump demo. Too ill tempered and incompetent to have a fleet or to work for someone else. Looking for workers to underpay and complain about.
Donald is saying he wouldn't pay his workers? That is so at odds with everything we know about him!
Yep. A large number of his supporters are not employees and tenants, but people who HAVE employees and tenants, and don’t want to pay their employees and do want to gouge money out of their tenants. I vaguely remember the 2016 election stats showing a majority of R votes from well-to-do white men.
They seem to be the people who have successfully branded themselves as "working class" in america.
