US imperialism, like the British Empire before it, needs a reliable ally in the Middle East to control its oil and gas and the Suez Canal. It tried Iran but the Shah was overthrown 1979. It had Egypt but Saddat was assassinated in 1981 and Mubarak overthrown in 2011. Israel is their best bet.
