I remember when they implemented curfews. Implemented loitering laws and the rise of NIMBYs in general And yeah — there’s some really fucking stupid early Gen Xers mixed in with this too but the majority of these laws were enacted primarily by boomers and selfishness is kind of “a thing” with them.
Honestly there are a ton of factors that can be discussed here but the white upper class suburban mindset is at the core of a lot of it because a hefty chunk of it also stems from folks getting scared at kids of color simply existing in any given space undisturbed. Cant have that so all kids suffer.
No no don't you see Because when *they* were hanging out as kids they were good little angels but clearly when anyone younger than them does it they're loitering and causing trouble and must be stopped at any cost
The empathy of most of a generation was killed off by the lead in their bodies and they can't stop making it everyone else's problem
And they wonder why all the kids are playing Roblox and Minecraft. Those are the closest things they have now to communal spaces.
