Anyone who says disabled people don't belong in fantasy but find themselves in awe of characters with robotic limbs, or folks who use magic to do mundane tasks that they cannot do of their own volition are not serious people worth listening to.
It's giving bananapants levels of lack of creativity that anyone would even begin to open their mouths to say disability in fantasy doesnt matter but then again, I'd imagine that the venn diagram of ppl who say that VS ppl who rally against folks of color being in fantasy is probably a solid circle.
Don't forget Daryl Lorenz from Gundam Thunderbolt. He first lost his legs and then his hands/forearms, yet, he Piloted the most badass Zaku (The psycho Zaku) and was still able to pilot mobile suits in the following story arc, even with the limited features of his prosthetics.
One of One Piece's more beloved characters, Fujitora is blind and uses the universe's power system of Haki (it's magic) to help him get around, yet his blindness still plays plot roles.
There's truly no excuse, disabled people are a great way of showing the world as either utopian or dystopian. Either the world is so magical and great that disabled people have a surplus of accommodations or the world is so harsh and dangerous that it's rare to hit have some kind of disability.
Same motherfuckers who would argue that Mermaids can't be black...
Also I'm thinking of one of my favorite rpg's of all time L5R where you could start the game missing a limb, for funsies! Not a good choice if you're playing a front-line warrior, but you could do it! I played a club-footed duelist in the system, and later a friend played a one-armed tactician.
What are those weirdos on about? That was a main character in Game of Thrones show.
Do Luke and Anakin Skywalker count?
