It’s always hard to tell isn’t it? I think a lot of their most ott 90s megalomania was heavily toot-driven, and they (mainly Liam) feel like they’re just playing with it now. Noel in particular has been quite critical of their post-Definitely Maybe output in recent years, even the big stuff.
FWIW, I reckon Noel has a genuine gift for melody, which is what made their best stuff good. The lyrics are appalling, mind
