one problem with the scolds is that they don’t just want your vote. they demand message discipline that’s just not our responsibility. I’m voting for Harris; I don’t also owe her a blind eye to the *ongoing genocide*. if you want me to feel differently, you should yell at Harris.

"I'm voting for Harris and I hate that I live in a world and situation where I feel like I have to" is, to me, the most level-headed political position one can take, right now. And as far as I'm concerned, Harris herself doesn't necessarily need to know that you're gonna vote for her, anyway.

They want you to thank them for Harris. They think a genocidal cop is something so wonderful that we have to bow down and kiss their feet in joy that our choice is "Genocide, or more genocide".

It's your patriotic duty to act like a violent, prejudiced boor the moment someone questions Democratic electoral strategy and their ability to meaningfully pursue political goals. Anything less and you are personally ushering in a thousand years of fascist darkness. #resistance

I think a lot of it is anxiety. A lot of people read that someone is voting for Harris but hates the genocide of Palestinians, and they worry that it will influence someone to not vote at all. It's silly, given that message discipline is not a feature of non-athoritarians of any stripe.

I know for a fact that younger me would have withheld my vote. I voted for Nader. I was a very black & white thinker then. I'm old now and have lived in the grey area for a while, so I'm voting for harm reduction. But I absolutely understand if someone can't bring themselves to do it.
