The Texas man who filed the first post-Roe lawsuit for wrongful death of a fetus—he sued his ex-wife's friends for helping her get abortion pills—dropped his case last night. The plaintiff was represented by Jonathan Mitchell, the anti-abortion activist who devised Texas's SB8.
The case was filed by Jonathan Mitchell, the anti-abortion lawyer who designed Texas’ 2021 abortion ban that is enforced through private lawsuits.
So, US really is Rome AD History is priceless and unforgiving 😔 When is the TL reboot scheduled again? 🤔
From my read of this--while this is a good outcome--is it's not so much about the basic merits of the case under the [insane] statute, but rather the plaintiff's abhorrent related behaviour coming to light. It's not great.
I remember this guy. If anyone would like to jog their memories wrt exactly how horrifically awful he is, take a gander
A Texas man suing his ex-wife's friends for allegedly helping her get an abortion allegedly promised to drop the lawsuit in exchange for sex.
Basically illustrating why there’s a huge overlap between men who are anti-abortion and men who are anti-no-fault divorce.
I can’t imagine it made him very popular.
Someone was tired of every time he went on a date hearing "you are that guy I am out of here"
Good. Now he can fall down a manhole and be met joyously by Pennywise.
Speaking of Jonathan Mitchell, now is a good time to remember what he said about plans to ban abortion nationwide *without passing a new law* in this NY Times article from February: www.nytimes.com/2024/02/17/u...
This case was some serious (and terrifying) bs. Bro was a domestic abuser who weaponized a horrible law to terrorize women.
