See, this isn't my experience, either! And maybe it's because the segments of fandoms I run in tend to be focused on expanding, transforming, and fucking with canon rather than preserving the purity of it. A lot of the enduring folks tend to be those who've helped develop *fanon*.

One guess where most of the harassment I've seen in my career has come from? I'm not saying no positive experiences exist in these spaces. I'm saying the negative is just as real and as valid. And sometimes it's hard to tell from the inside.
