In rural areas many pubs aren't open for two days a week and when open will often have locked the door before 10, especially in winter. There used to be two distinct group of drinkers, early doors (5 to 8) and the late drinkers (after 8 to closing), the second group has virtually disappeared.

Came across several of these in our fields this afternoon, think I have only seen one before, about 10 years ago. We normally have plenty of field mushrooms and bay boletus, but haven't seen any so far this year. Looking forward to chicken forestiere this evening!

Correction! Had a closer look at the birds that were warming themselves on the roof, seems that they are house martins, although I can see some of the swallows perched amongst them. Don't normally see house martins around us. Interesting to see if the swallows leave with them or stay a bit longer.

Telephone wires and air around the house full with swallows this morning, normally have about 20 but this morning massed gathering of over 150 (the picture is just a section of them perching on the wire). It will be sad to see them go but will look forward to their return in the spring.

Is this just as much about him stirring the pot around the Conservative leadership election and trying to show he is still relevant, as about criticising Labour? Expect more from him trying to drive the narrative of the leadership contest in the coming two months. The lettuce may do the same too.

I also never used blockbusters, but I could replace it with either sending a telex or recording the radio using a reel to reel recorder.
