My great-grandfather, George T. Hamrick was a house carpenter in 1902 in Birmingham, Alabama. He was making $2.70 per day for 9 hours of work. His union negotiated an increase to $.35 per hour for 8 hours of work. Which equals a dime more per day. Hey, every dime counts when your raising a family.
