Don't ponies usually get their cutie marks when they're kids.....

Most of them yes, yet some of them no, as they can bloom later on; thou easily picked on till then. Than you get some like Trouble Shoe's, who have a preconceived notion of the symbol they get, that seemingly doesn't correlate with/to the talent/event that caused it to manifest in the first place.
