Jewish students and colleagues are also hurting, and I've met with them. Many suffer because their religion of peace is being used to justify murder and genocide. At my uni, some of the leaders of the Pro-Palestine encampment were dear Jewish colleagues. Because they are not white supremacists.
The difference is that white supremacist tend to not care about non-White non-Western children. Most of the world has seen that. I never said anything about me feeling differently about them. All children should be protected.
Students come to my office looking for solace because they know for a fact that most of their professors don't care about people like them getting murdered. I'm trying to be there for them, but I saw a dead child from Gaza no older than the age of my daughter & I can't stop crying.
I have said it before and will say it again, and I will eventually finish writing the book on the subject: Liberalism is White supremacy under the facade of good manners. Which is why most liberals are one minority protest away from embracing fascism. 4/4
When I see kids of the same age as my daughter (2 yo) in concentration camps on the US southern border or getting bombed by the West in the Middle East, all I can think about is how nice it must be for White philosophers to pretend that is not happening to real humans. 3/4
I just heard this fascinating documentary/podcast on brutalism at CBC Ideas. I still find brutalism an offense to the senses, beauty, and God. But now my hatred and disgust is better informed. open.spotify.com/episode/5DVV...
Former Peruvian dictator, Alberto Fujimori died yesterday. He stole 10 billion USD from the country, committed state terrorism, and forcibly sterilized 250000 Indigenous women. Western powers supported him because of his committed to mass privatization of national assets and deregulation.
That same people tend to forget that socialist projects in Latin America (LA) end up embracing the kind of extractivism that destroys the planet and the conditions for Indigenous peoples to thrive. Just like any other corrupt capitalist. Time to stop idealizing the LA left. 3/3
Maduro is doing now exactly what Fujimori, a right wing dictator, did in Peru in the 2000s. To pretend otherwise is to be blinded by sheer stupidity. To give a pass to a dictatorship that abuses people, only because it claims allegiance to something you like is wrong. 2/3
