At a time of fast rising seas, the ocean wants this barrier island back. But humans, who have held their ground here for over a century, are planning new condos.

Rented a house on a NJ barrier island one summer. I knew I was just renting; some of my neighbors thought they actually owned something rather than renting from Mother Nature with help from the Army Corps of Engineers rebuilding the seawall every decade or two.
