I'll probably regret this one, but one reason the US has not reined Israel in is that Israel is in the process of taking out a range of bad actors and threats that the US is happy to see gone. The same is true for the Saudis and Emiratis. 1/

The broader problem is that nobody believes the US will apply the necessary pressure after the war to ensure such a war never occurs again, ie, force Israel into finally accepting partition.

I have been thinking exactly the same thing. Having said that, it’s a gamble. When you don’t control most of the variables, the situation could escape your control.

I am about to argue something similar in something I’m writing. For a lot of regional actors this isn’t a problem.

then the US, Saudis, and Emiratis are as foolish as Israel, because Israel isn't "taking out" Hamas or Hezbollah. this sort of indiscriminate slaughter only pushes people even further into their arms, and deepens their alliances.

Israelis murder Palestinian civilians to steal their land. For example, in 2022 they stole 950 homes from 1,032 innocent civilians. The majority of the victims were _not_ accused of "terrorism" now, let's hear the human rights record of these "bad actors"

I believe your analysis and it makes me say that the US does not learn. Paul Wolfiwitz and Dick Cheney wanted Saddam gone so bad and that whole venture did not make the US ANY safer in the long run.

In 75 years, Israel has never been able to “take out a range of bad actors”. All they managed is to leave behind something even more polarised and radical than before.

“taking out” as in antagonizing entire new generations, got it

What makes them "bad actors"?
