My cartoon for this week’s Guardian Books:

A book gazes longingly out a window. A single tear rolls down it’s face/cover. An older book with spectacles and a cane appears and says “Summer's over, kid. They've gone back to the city.” The younger book replies “But I'm only half-read!” “Nobody's coming back till October: You're a holiday home book now.” Explains the old book “ It ain't so bad here. Sure, most guests bring their own reading. But sometimes we get lucky: Last summer Aunt Lucy's bag got lost by the airline and she read three of us and took one more for the journey home.” This perks up the young book who excitedly states “That's good to hear. I'm bound to get picked! I'm one of the Guardian's essential summer reads, you know.” The old book wanders back to the shelf saying “That's the attiutude, kid. Never give up.”
