In an extreme example: If the seeding is wrong, then the two best albums of the year could face each other in the first round, which would lead to the second best album of the year getting left in the dust of round one!

I think I am in the minority on this, but I'd rather have less unpredictability! Lots of upsets means the seeds were off in the first place, and it means that the best albums might not be the ones that make it to the later rounds.
