Some of the criticisms make out that Coppola accidentally made a self-consciously weird and mannered movie. But no, he absolutely made exactly the movie he set out to make. In that way, it’s a success. Unfortunately, the movie he set out to make was very misguided. I feel stupider for having seen it

i am seeing it tomorrow as much as anything out of personal obligation. i expect a whole lot of bloat and bloviation, i think i’m going in forewarned and am open to surprise.
