In DC the red line runs parallel to track used for DC-WV commuter trains and the DC-Chicago Amtrak, but is primarily used for freight rail. Iā€™ve seen trains so long they span the distance between metro stops continuously, itā€™s absolutely obscene.

I thought the new plan was just linking the purple line to the bus station, and have riders transfer to the metro on the street the way they do now. I used to live across from the station too, it was bittersweet getting to watch the construction from my balcony but knowing it was wrong.

A satellite photo of the silver spring metro station, showing the proposed location of the purple line stop. It runs parallel to the red line tracks, in contrast to the photo of the line as it is shown to be constructed in the other photo.

The irony is they could never make a highway nice, no matter how much money they spend on one. They canā€™t be anything but sun roasted salt flats. The view of public transit as welfare and the puritanical bent of conservatives makes these choices read as not just indifferent but vindictive.
