On this Star Trek Day nearly 60 years after it's premiere, I'd like to thank Lucille Ball without whom we would very likely have no Trek. Sticking with the franchise through two pilots, Lucy's unwavering support founded a sci-fi franchise that has endured for decades and touched countless hearts.

Lucille actually collapsed Desilu trying to keep Star Trek on television. She sold the studio to Paramount rather than pull the show.
