i love my little internet ecosystem. if you don't agree with me you can kill yourself easy as
the reason we liked hanging out on twitter is bc it's where The News is but also your friends' selfies and updates, whereas here it's just a microblog site with less features. i grew up on microblog sites tho (tumblr, livejournal etc) so i'm still fine with it
so therefore theoretically i have a multiple-choice past, i can decide whether i want to feel connected to carpathian limestone, lithuanian bogs, silesian coal etc. but obviously i know none of this will happen. connections to land come from personal ties
i imagine i should not let myself feel this sense of betrayal and loss whenever i think about palestine. i should look into my own actual roots, the places we'd lived before; we have no family left anywhere in europe, my eight great-grandparents were each born in a different country
if these lands were free and restored to their rightful owners, perhaps the rooms in people's houses would be a little darker and the internet less reliable. but they also could be much more beautiful
that the place that i felt myself anchored in was stolen and perverted, ruined for generations to come. but i still can't stop myself from being there sometimes. from seeing it when i think about the future or the past, about what i'd want to do with my life
every time i remembered that all this was fake, that before my great-grandparents settled in palestine my family came from somewhere in europe and we were not connected to any of this land, it was another wedge reminding me that my roots are nowhere
the factories and coal powerplants should be dismantled. there shouldn't be a need to reclaim water from the sea. if only people could live simpler lives with agriculture and traditional manufacturing. etc
there should be old town shopping streets and souks, not suburban american-style shopping malls with security checkpoints. every time i was there i could see how the landscape could be restored, if only all those ugly cities across gush dan and the sharon plain were torn down.
