I don’t think it’s widely taught in high school history that the Alien and Sedition acts were tremendously successful at restricting free speech, and America would’ve been a very different place if Jefferson hadn’t moved us in a different direction.
We definitely were taught the Alien and Sedition Acts in mid-00s CA high school.
