🎨 ARTISTS! 🎨 What's a little (or big) "ah-ha!" moment that you've had? This could be a realization of how you approach art, learning a new trick, finding an amazing paint or art tool, finding a tutorial that elevated your art, getting advice from someone, discovering who you are as an artist, etc.

My biggest eureka moment was realising that, generally, watching tutorials and guides just doesn't help me. I can watch them and absorb as much info as possible, but quite frankly, I improve best by just... doing art. Maybe it's the same for some other people too, just do it, don't think about it.

the things people make fun of (only one eye out, all panels being closeups in white voids, "somehow palpatine has returned") can be invaluable for actually finishing a story and not having an endless pile of WIPs

Drawing digitally with a much sketchier and rougher art style using the 1 pixel brush tool. Although I might need more practice, I feel that this style has more character than when i simply try to draw like I do on paper.

The drawing that I did last week where I had my artistic moment of epiphany.
How I draw on paper.
How I used to draw digitally.

For me, it was when I finally accepted that not everything I draw needs to be presentable and posted on social media. This made me feel fine for testing and experimenting with things without committing to them and allowed me to give up on pieces if I wanted, no matter how much time I spent on them

My art professors were really big on generating 10-20 thumbnails for any one design, and I would always say 'eff that' and just run with my first vision. Which is fine, but I have since learned the value of making (and playing around) with several design ideas before committing to The One. It's fun.

Figuring out how everything can be broken down to value and edges. It’s something they says in school but I think it’s more of like a new mode of seeing that’s unlocked along your journey. Like the X-ray vision in Metroid.

realizing it was still art if I used a photo reference. I can't visualize and had previously resigned myself to the fact that I couldn't make the art I wanted. giving myself permission to use a reference was everything

That not every line has to be meticulous and perfect. No one is looking as closely as your art as you are, they are often looking at it as a whole so there's no need to put that much pressure on everything. Once I accepted that I started having so much more fun /1

I can just like stop painting after an hour and cover up my paint and do more later instead of hyping up a 4 to 6 hour session in my brain then deciding oh no that's too much and then never painting

I wanted to make a webcomic. But I can't draw and mostly make 3d renders. But then I realized that I could make comics using 3d renders. It's not the easiest. But the result looks great and I can finally tell stories I always have in my head or heart.
