In western Canada, the wildfire “season” has become the whole year, as over a hundred fires from 2023 continue to smolder, many of them underground. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...
Geez, I'm all for "Endless amounts of fire", but not in the wildfire sense.
A reminder that Alberta's oil sands are responsible for more greenhouse gas emissions than *the rest of Canada combined*. We need to get serious about stopping these fires, and that means stopping climate change.
I'm afraid 2024 will be even worse than last year for wildfires, especially with a reduced snow pack across most of the country.
Remember when the UCP won in Alberta 2015 I believe and cut our specialized fire fighting team and let BC hire them and then Fort Mc Murray almost burned down in 2016?
I live in a town at the south region of the AB Boreal. The town is basically surrounded by forest. The snowpack is basically non-existent. I am extremely worried about this burn season. We have bug out bags/plan ready. It’s going to be gnarly. ☹️🌲🌳🌲😬
😔 i say that & i’m in NY
This is just the beginning. Alberta and Saskatchewan need to wake up for what's coming their way right now. Spending all their time defending the Potash, Gas and Oil industries has distracted them from the consequences of that. thetyee.ca/Analysis/202...
Scientists who studied the region’s arid past warned this drought was coming. Thirst for growth won out. A Tyee special report.
I wonder at how much these wildfires are adding to GHG emissions and are, in effect, feedback loops.
