As Olympic athletes swelter, scientific attribution shows its extreme temps were virtually impossible w/o human-caused climate change. Lead author @frediotto.bsky.social adds, "If the atmosphere wasn’t overloaded from burning fossil fuels, Paris would have been ~3C cooler and much safer for sport.”

Here in Modena, maximum temperatures have been over 30 °C every day for the last 30 days, 38 °C forecast next week. Absolutely relentless heat, lucky we had abundant rain in local mountains (only just avoided flooding the city) in June so no drought yet, but horrible. 3-4° above normal like Paris.
