The great thing about Bluesky is anyone can filter out posts with NSFW content as long as it's properly tagged. You only have to see what you want to see!

That heterogeneity required more thought, more skill, and more determination.

We can partly blame the walled garden of mobile devices. But we should also blame the consolidation of communities in general. The default is Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. Before, if you wanted to find your people, you'd dive much deeper into disparate forums, fan sites on geocities, or Usenet.

I didn't know at the time the IRC bots I was coding as a kid would encourage a career in software. I just did it because it was fun!

It's such a shame too. So many people became interested in tech because they were able (or required to) tinker with their devices to get them to do what you wanted. If you messed something up it was on you to fix it.

That's what I keep hearing! Mobile devices completely abstract away this concept into galleries and libraries. Windows does this too to some degree. It's not their fault, we did this to ourselves.
