you never have to touch custom feeds if you don’t want to! “following” and “discover” are the defaults, and there’s 25k more feeds to choose from if you don’t want to build one yourself. it’s just that the option is there if you do. we don’t lock you out of being able to control what you see.
Feeds aren't little individual islands with their own rules all to themselves, they're just curated lists.
About everything is easier than picking a Mastodon instance.
